Army Armament R501 Gas Blowback Airsoft Pistol, Black

The R501 is Army Armament's 1911-style gas blowback pistol, and it's aimed at the same players who buy a Hi-Capa 1911 for the same reason they'd buy a real 1911: the profile, the feel, and the manual of arms. Metal slide over a polymer lower frame gives it the look and weight of a service pistol. Compact enough to sit comfortably on a duty rig or a low-ride hip holster.

Gas blowback, as expected. Green gas (or CO2) runs a reciprocating slide and a solid hammer system, so you get the full recoil cycle and a working slide lock. That's the trade-off with GBB pistols: the realism is unmatched, but gas pressure varies with temperature and ambient conditions, and you'll use more gas per fill than a non-blowback pistol. Green gas is the everyday choice for mild weather; switch to CO2 if you play in the cold.

Velocity is where it should be. 300–320 FPS on 0.20g BBs puts it in the standard range for a GBB pistol. That's safe at nearly every field's limit, but chrono with your own BBs before your first game — gas pressure and room temperature move the number enough to matter.

Parts availability that actually matters. The R501 is compatible with standard Tokyo Marui Hi-Capa parts. Drop-in TM-spec barrels, buckings, recoil springs, and triggers all fit. You can run a tighter bore 6.03mm barrel for better grouping, swap in a softer bucking for extra range, or upgrade the blowback housing for faster cycling. That aftermarket ecosystem is one of the reasons to buy this over a platform with no upgrade path.

What's in the box. Gun, an extended 28-round magazine, and the manual. The magazine uses Army Armament's ARMY-A-197 pattern — specific to this platform, not the universal Hi-Capa pattern, so spares come from a narrower shelf. Gas and charger are not included.

What it isn't. This is a blowback sidearm for realism, close-range play, and training. It's not a high-capacity CQB sidearm for a fast-paced game. 28 rounds is realistic but means you'll buy extra mags, and they're platform-specific rather than universal. Budget on a spare magazine rather than a spring swap.
