The Golden Eagle AMD-65 is a metal-receiver take on the Hungarian paratrooper rifle, a distinctive AK variant with an integrated foregrip and folding stock. If you want something that stands out from the sea of M4s and standard AKs on the field, this is a legitimate alternative that still runs on the same reliable platform.

The AMD-65 platform. The original was a carbine version of the AKM, designed for airborne troops who needed something shorter than a standard rifle but still capable. Golden Eagle's version keeps the signature forward grip and folding stock. The stock folds to the right side and extends without pressing any buttons — just pull it out and it locks. That's useful when you're transitioning from CQB to open ground and don't want to fumble with release levers.

Construction. The receiver, outer barrel, and stock are metal. The handguard and grip are polymer, which keeps the weight at 7 pounds. That's heavier than a typical M4 but not burdensome. The trade-off is durability and a more substantial feel, especially when you're holding it in the ready position for extended periods.

Version 3 gearbox. Inside is a full metal V3 shell, the same platform used in most AK-style AEGs. The V3 has a quick-change spring guide at the back, so tuning velocity for different fields is straightforward — you don't have to split the gearbox to swap springs. The downside is that V3 internals are less common than V2 parts, so upgrades come from a narrower selection of manufacturers.

Velocity and field use. Rated 390 FPS on 0.20g BBs, which puts you inside typical outdoor limits (380–400 FPS) but above most indoor caps (300–350 FPS). You'll need to check your local fields, and you may need a spring swap for indoor play. As always, chrono with your own BBs before your first game — factory figures shift with temperature and break-in.

What's in the box. The rifle comes with a 500-round high-capacity magazine that requires gear wind-up, a 6V stick battery, and a standard wall charger. The hi-cap holds enough rounds for a full skirmish without reloading, but the winding is audible and takes time between mags. The included 6V battery will run the gun, but it's a weak link — you'll get better trigger response and rate of fire from an 8.4V NiMH or 7.4V LiPO if the gun supports it.

Compatibility. This runs on standard AK magazine patterns, so spares are widely available. It also accepts most AK accessories — sights, slings, optics mounts.

What this is not for. This is not a lightweight CQB build. At 7 pounds with a metal stock and receiver, it carries more than a polymer M4. It's also not LiPO-ready out of the box, so if you want high-rate-of-fire performance, you'd need to upgrade the MOSFET and wiring. The 340mm inner barrel gives you solid mid-range performance, but this isn't a DMR platform — it's a carbine for skirmish and CQB.

Includes federally mandated blaze orange muzzle tip.
