Lighter body, more teeth. The piston is machined from high-grade polycarbonate and carries 14 full steel teeth, which is what takes the direct impact from the sector gear on every cycle. Polycarbonate is significantly lighter than steel, so the piston has less mass to accelerate on the way back and less inertia on the way forward. Four cut-outs in the body shed even more weight. The trade-off: a lighter piston puts the stress on your gears rather than the piston rack, so it pairs best with a high-torque gear set that can take the load.
What it's for. This is a rate-of-fire upgrade. Swap in a lighter piston alongside speed gears and a lighter spring, and you'll see a noticeably faster cycle. It drops into a standard Version 2 gearbox, so it fits the vast majority of M4, M16, MP5, and G3 platforms. If you're running a heavy spring or a DMR build, a full-steel-tooth piston is the more conservative choice.
Before you install, double-check your shimming and angle of engagement. A lighter piston cycles faster, and if the sector gear isn't meshing cleanly, the first thing to strip is usually the piston rack.
