SHS 18:1 Steel Gear Set for Airsoft AEGs

Stock nylon gears are the first thing to wear out in an AEG that sees real use. They strip under load, chip from poor shimming, and eventually leave you with a gearbox that won't cycle. Upgrading to steel is the most common first internal upgrade because it addresses the weakness directly without changing how the gun runs.

The 18:1 ratio. This is the standard field configuration — balanced between rate of fire and mechanical advantage. It's not a speed setup chasing rounds per second, and it's not a torque setup built for heavy springs. It's the middle ground that works with stock springs and light upgrades, and it's what most field builds run.

Fits V2 and V3. Version 2 and 3 gearboxes cover the majority of AEG platforms: M4, M16, MP5, G3 on the V2 side; AK, G36, AUG, SIG on the V3 side. One gear set for both shells means you don't need to juggle separate spares if you run multiple platforms.

A note on installation. Steel gears are harder than the stock nylon they replace, which means they'll outlast the nylon pinion on your motor — and eventually eat it if you don't upgrade that too. Most people pair steel gears with a steel pinion motor or at least upgrade the pinion alongside the set. Shimming matters more with steel gears too: correct tooth engagement is what keeps them quiet and prevents premature wear on the piston rack.
