Your pinion gear meshes with the bevel gear at one end, and nothing holds it at the other. That floating end is where AEG pinion shaft play starts, and where engagement drifts over time until you hear that rattle and have to adjust motor height again.
The SHS 9mm cross-back bushing adds a second mounting point on the rear of the gearbox shell, so the pinion shaft is clamped at both ends. Less lateral play, cleaner mesh with the bevel, and fewer times you have to reach for the motor height screw.
Steel construction. Fits standard Version 2 and Version 3 gearbox shells. If your shell lacks the cross-back mounting holes, you'll need to drill them — most aftermarket shells already have them, and many stock shells do too, so check yours before buying.
