The Atlas Custom Works M1873 Mare's Leg answers a different question than the usual airsoft rifle: what if you wanted a compact, single-shot experience that trades rate of fire for realism and character? Built as a green gas lever-action rather than an AEG, it's not trying to compete in a fire fight. It's for the player who values the manual of arms, the satisfying cycle of a lever, and a compact profile that fits where longer rifles don't.
How it fires. This is a non-blowback gas system, meaning the bolt doesn't cycle back on each shot. You pull the trigger to fire, then work the lever manually to eject the spent case and chamber the next round. That lever action is the whole point—it's the tactile experience, the deliberate rhythm, and the realism of operating a classic firearm mechanism. The trade-off is obvious: you're not getting full-auto or even rapid semi. You're getting a single-shot rifle that rewards careful shot placement over volume.
Velocity and where it puts you. Rated 360–390 FPS on 0.20g BBs. That clears most outdoor AEG limits (typically 380–400 FPS) and sits near the upper edge of what many indoor fields allow. It's a versatile number for outdoor skirmish, but you'll want to chrono with your own BBs before your first game—gas pressure varies with temperature, and heavier BBs will drop the velocity into a safer range for tighter fields.
What's in the box that matters. Unlike most airsoft rifles that ship empty, this one includes a gas fill adapter, a speedloader, a clearing rod, and even a bag of sample BBs. The suppressor and M-LOK handguard are included, and there's a rail on top for optics. You still need to buy a gas canister and BBs, but you're not starting from zero.
Internals and upgrade path. The 25-round internal magazine and valve system are proprietary to this platform. That means fewer aftermarket options than a standard M4 or AK—you won't find a shelf of compatible mags or bolt upgrades. What you can do is add optics to the top rail, switch to heavier BBs (0.28g or 0.30g) to stabilize shots at this velocity, and maintain the seals with regular silicone oil. The adjustable hop-up is your main tuning tool for consistency.
Externals and handling. Full-metal receiver, lever assembly, outer barrel, and M-LOK handguard give it a solid feel at 27 inches overall. The two-tone colorway adds distinctive character. The enlarged lever loop makes cycling easier with gloves on.
Before you buy. This is a single-shot lever-action, not a primary battle rifle. It excels at designated marksman roles, sidearm backup, or as a secondary for players who enjoy the mechanical rhythm of lever cycling. It's not for high-tempo CQB where every second counts on reloads. Gas systems also lose power in cold weather, so outdoor winter play may require CO2 or a different platform. Battery and charger are not needed—this runs on green gas.
