The Double Bell MEU fills a specific role: a gas blowback sidearm that gives you realistic manual of arms without the cost of a full-size GBBR. At 2.1 lbs with a metal slide over a polymer frame, it's light enough for all-day carry but heavy enough to feel substantial during dry fire and live drills. The 300–310 FPS rating on 0.20g BBs puts it squarely in the CQB-only category, which is exactly where a pistol-calibre carbine or sidearm belongs.
How the GBB trade-off works. Gas blowback pistols trade some consistency for realism. The slide reciprocates on every shot, cycling gas for the blowback effect while feeding the next round. That means more realistic recoil and training value, but output drops in cold weather and you burn through gas faster than a non-blowback design. On a typical green gas magazine, expect 15 to 25 shots before the velocity starts falling off. Indoor ranges and warm-weather skirmishing are where this platform shines.
Internals and upgrade path. The MEU follows standard Tokyo Marui 1911/MEU dimensions, which is the good news for anyone who wants to tune it. Tightbore barrels, hop-up buckings, recoil springs, and nozzles are all off-the-shelf. A 6.01mm tightbore barrel will tighten groupings, a soft 50-degree bucking works well with lighter BBs, and a reinforced recoil spring helps the slide cycle more reliably as the gas pressure drops through a magazine. You do not need a specialist to service it.
Externals and ergonomics. The frame-mounted thumb safety, beavertail grip safety, and skeletonized trigger are the classic MEU touches. Textured grip panels help with wet hands, and the push-button mag release is positioned for quick reloads. The removable front and rear sights let you zero for your preferred BB weight, and the lanyard mount is there if your field or unit requires it. The 9-inch length fits most holsters designed for full-size 1911s.
Before you buy. This pistol runs on green gas, which comes in disposable 230g cylinders or refillable tanks with an adapter. BBs are not included, and you will need to buy them separately. The single-stack magazine holds fewer rounds than a modern polymer pistol, but that is the trade for the 1911 platform. Battery and charger are not applicable—this is gas-powered, so there is no LiPO to worry about, but you do need to maintain the seal and lubricate the slide regularly.
What this is not for. At 300–310 FPS, this is not a primary for outdoor fields running 380+ FPS caps. It is a CQB sidearm, a backup gun, or a training tool for dry-fire and draw-stroke practice. If you want a full-power outdoor primary, look at an AEG or a high-velocity GBR instead.
Includes federally mandated blaze orange muzzle tip.
