The HFC HG-173 gives you something most pistols don't: full-auto fire. That's not a gimmick. When you're clearing a room in CQB or running a training drill, being able to lay down a burst without switching to a rifle changes how you move. This is that capability in M92 form, powered by 12g CO2 cartridges instead of green gas.
CO2 versus green gas. CO2 runs at higher pressure, which means more consistent cycling and better performance in cold weather. The trade-off is that it burns through gas faster, especially on full-auto, and the higher pressure puts more stress on seals over time. You'll go through cartridges quickly if you're trigger-happy, so budget accordingly. The gun uses standard 12g CO2 inserts, which are available at any sporting goods store.
Velocity and where it fits. Rated 330–340 FPS on 0.20g BBs. That clears typical indoor CQB limits and keeps you legal at most outdoor fields that run 350 FPS caps for pistols. It's not a long-range gun—it's a CQB tool. Once you step past 100 feet, hop-up and BB weight matter more than raw velocity, and this platform's compact barrel doesn't give you much headroom either way.
Build and feel. Metal slide with a polymer frame keeps the weight at 2.4 lbs. That's light enough for a sidearm but heavy enough to absorb some of the recoil impulse. The blowback action is real—you feel the slide cycle with every shot, which is great for training and immersion but also means you're burning gas faster than a non-blowback would. The 9.2-inch length makes it easy to maneuver in tight spaces.
What's in the box. The pistol, one 26-round magazine, a hard transport case, and Allen keys for basic adjustments. CO2 cartridges are not included, and neither is a loader for them. You'll want to pick up a magazine loader if you're buying multiple CO2 mags, and keep some silicone oil on hand for maintaining the seal.
Upgrades and compatibility. The internals follow standard GBB dimensions, so aftermarket parts exist for the hop-up, barrel, and recoil spring. The magazine is HFC-specific, so spares come from the same ecosystem rather than being universal across all GBB platforms.
Before you buy. This is not Canada-compliant. The full-auto capability and CO2 power source put it outside those restrictions. If you're buying this for a field that requires a chronograph check, bring your own BBs and expect to verify velocity—CO2 output varies with temperature and cartridge age. The included magazine holds 26 rounds, which is realistic but means you'll want spares if you're running full-auto regularly.
