Lancer Tactical's metal spring set replaces the small internal springs in a Version 7 gearbox, which is the M14 design. It covers the trigger return, the anti-reversal latch and the selector mechanism, none of which affect velocity and all of which are what let the gearbox reset itself correctly between shots. V7 is the least common of the widely used shells, so its parts are harder to find than M4 parts; if you have the rifle apart anyway, swapping in these prevents the kind of intermittent fault that reads like an electrical problem and turns out to be a tired spring.
