The FAST helmet has always been the choice for players who want their face covered. It puts a shell over the skull and a mesh mask in front of the mouth and eyes, so you get protection without the claustrophobia of a full-steel mask. If you play fields where goggles alone aren't enough — tight CQB where shots come from side angles, or outdoor sites where a ricochet is more likely than a clean hit — this is what you reach for.

How it's built. The outer shell is nylon reinforced with steel mesh, which gives it the rigidity to take a solid hit without cracking the way a pure polymer helmet can. The face mask is a steel grid that covers the mouth, nose, and eyes. It's not as tight a view as a full-face steel mask, but it lets you hear the ref, track players moving at the edge of your vision, and breathe without fogging. There are Velcro panels on the sides and front for patches or NVG mounts if you run that sort of gear, and elastic cords looped around the helmet so straps and balaclavas don't shift mid-game.

Comfort details that matter. The interior has fixed strap padding and a sponge lining that absorbs sweat and keeps the helmet from shifting when you're running. An adjustable knob at the back lets you fine-tune the fit for whatever head shape you're dealing with — it's not a one-size-or-nothing affair. The whole thing weighs roughly 2.6 pounds, which is noticeable the first time you put it on but settles quickly. If you've only worn a skull helmet, the full-face version takes half a game to stop feeling heavy. After that it's just what's on your head.

What it comes with. The helmet and the face mask arrive as a single package, so you don't need to buy them separately. The mesh is rated to stop 0.20g BBs at typical field velocities, but like any steel mesh it will dent and it will pit over time. Expect to replace the face mask before the helmet shell. That's normal.

Before you play. The steel mesh blocks a fair amount of peripheral vision on the edges, and it picks up BB chips after a session — nothing structural, just cosmetic. Wipe the mesh down after your game and the marks come off. If you run goggles over the helmet, check that the frame doesn't gap the seal; most do a fine job, but some wider ski-style frames ride above the mask line.

This is a full-face helmet, not a lightweight skull cap. If you value speed and feel over protection, look at a plain helmet or a cap instead.
