At 6 oz, it's basically weightless on your head. Cotton breathes in heat, which matters when you're under a pack and moving. The 44-inch square folds to the traditional triangle with the center notch for your nose, and you wrap it however you need: full face coverage in the dust bowl, head wrap for sun, or around the neck for wind.
Cotton holds a knot better than synthetic alternatives, so this stays put when you're running. The trade-off is if it rains, it soaks—nylon dries faster but doesn't breathe the same way.
The Sand/stone/stars colorway reads desert, and the weave itself is thin enough to offer some basic barrier against light debris.
