Your bolt-action sniper is consistent on a good day and unpredictable on a bad one. The cocking cycle compresses a spring, and spring force drops as it uncoils, so velocity varies shot to shot. The trigger is a mechanical sear you pull around with your finger. HPA changes both of those problems at once.

The Polarstar UGS Type 1 is an HPA engine that replaces the spring and bolt group inside a spring bolt rifle. Gas pressure from an external air tank pushes the bolt rearward to chamber a round, and a regulated valve releases a measured burst of air to fire it. The result is consistent velocity from first shot to last, shot to shot, regardless of how fast you cycle the bolt. The trigger is a dedicated mechanical break rather than the spring's sear, which is cleaner and lighter and makes deliberate shot placement easier.

Platform and threading. Type 1 is the universal thread in the UGS family. It drops into standard spring bolt rifles — Kar98k, Gewehr 98, M1 Garand, and similar platforms — without cutting or tapping. The included stock rail mounts to the rifle receiver, and the buttstock bolts to the rail to complete the installation. The HPA line runs through the stock tube.

The RS spec. The UGS line comes in several performance variants, each tuned for different pressure ranges and velocity targets. RS is one of those variants — a specific performance tier within the Polarstar family. Exact velocity depends on tank pressure, BB weight, and your rifle's barrel and air seal. You dial in pressure to hit your field's limit rather than swapping springs.

What consistency buys you at range. A spring bolt rifle is already the right tool for long range, but the spring's fading push means the last round in a string can behave differently from the first. HPA removes that variable. Combined with a good hop-up setting, that consistency is what keeps rounds on target at distance. Effective range still comes down to your hop-up, BB weight, and barrel — velocity alone doesn't fix a bad bucking.

Velocity and field limits. HPA bolt rifles cover the sniper rules at most fields: roughly 450 to 550 FPS on 0.20g BBs, semi-auto or bolt-only, with MED around 75 to 100 feet. Your actual number depends on pressure, so chrono with your own BBs before your first game. Confirm your field's exact limit — they vary.

CO2 compatibility. The engine accepts 12g CO2 cartridges as an alternative power source. Useful when you don't have an HPA tank available — field parking lot, someone's garage, a friend's setup. CO2 output varies with ambient temperature, which is why HPA remains the preferred choice for competitive play.

What this is for. Long-range precision work, milsim sniper roles, and situations where shot-to-shot consistency matters. This is not a CQB platform or a fast-rate-of-fire gun — it's a deliberate, bolt-cycling rifle built for accuracy and range.

Before you buy. You will need an HPA air tank, a quick-disconnect line, and an on/off valve. None of those are included. The stock rail and buttstock ship with the engine, which is everything needed to mount it to your rifle.
