The Hi-Capa 5.1 is one of the most popular pistol platforms in airsoft, and it earns that spot. It's short enough to carry without digging into your hip on a CQB game, but long enough to handle comfortably and shoot straight. The R607 is Army Armament's take on that platform: a full-metal slide with a polymer frame, running on green gas, and aimed at players who want a realistic blowback sidearm without the weight and gas drain of an all-metal build.
It's a 5.1, not an 8.7. That's the single most useful thing about this gun. The 5.1 variant sits around 6.7 inches long, which fits naturally in a side holster or a grip pocket on a tactical vest. The 8.7 gives you a full-size 9mm look but makes the pistol harder to manage in close quarters. If you're running a dedicated sidearm setup, the 5.1 is the version you want.
How it runs. Green gas feeds from an included 28-round double-stack magazine, and it accepts most TM-spec Hi-Capa 5.1 mags, so spares are available beyond just Army Armament's own catalog. Velocity lands between 320 and 350 FPS on 0.20g BBs, which clears most indoor CQB caps and sits inside typical outdoor limits. There's an adjustable hop-up for fine-tuning accuracy with different BB weights. Chrono with your own BBs before your first game — temperature and BB weight both shift the number.
The aftermarket is vast. Because it's built to Tokyo Marui 5.1 specs, the parts ecosystem is massive. You can drop in a tighter 6.01mm inner barrel, swap the bucking for tighter shot groupings, lighten the recoil spring guide, or upgrade the trigger. There are aftermarket Hi-Capa parts now too, not just TM-derived pieces. If you plan to tune, the parts are there and they're affordable.
Externals. The slide is full metal. The frame is polymer with textured grips for a solid hold. If you prefer a heavier feel, full-metal Hi-Capas exist — but they'll eat gas faster and cost more to run.
What to expect. It's a GBB pistol, so output varies with ambient temperature. Hot day, it's punchy and consistent. Cold day, you'll feel it. This is true of every gas blowback, not a flaw in this one. Keep your gas canisters warm in winter, and don't expect spring-gun consistency in freezing conditions.
Before you buy. You'll want spare mags — 28 rounds goes fast in a skirmish, and the 5.1 mag ecosystem is cheap enough to stock up. Gas and a charger are not included. If your pistol is your primary weapon in CQB, two mags is the bare minimum. Three or four is comfortable.
Includes federally mandated blaze orange muzzle tip.
