How do you get a rifle with a full buffer tube into a carry-on? A compact stock is the usual answer, and the SS-8 is one of the better ones. This is an Atlas Custom Works build on that original design — one-plane folding, aluminum construction, and a 1913 rail running up top. It collapses from its full length down to 8.2 inches of folded footprint and weighs just under a pound. If you fly to events, shuttle your rig in a tight vehicle, or just hate a rifle that takes up half the trunk, this is a real solution rather than a compromise.

How it works. The stock folds straight back along a single axis — there's no secondary hinge to figure out or a separate section to deploy. When it's open it locks solid. The folded stock swings out of the way so you can shoot from it if you want, though most people keep it stowed and reposition it between lanes. A single hand moves it into place.

Build and rails. The body is CNC aluminum, not polymer, which means it stays rigid under recoil. The top carries a full-length 1913 Picatinny rail — optics, flip-up irons, even a short vertical grip all mount clean. The mounting face is standard AR buffer-tube compatible, and the included adapter covers the common tube sizes. The spec sheet lists Weaver/Picatinny as the rail type — side rails aren't mentioned one way or the other, so you'd have to check the product images if that matters.

Weight matters more on a stock than almost any other part. This one comes in at 0.6 lbs, which is lighter than most fixed or carbine-length stocks even when they're the same physical size. A full-metal buttstock in the same class is often 1.2 to 1.5 lbs and the difference shows in how the rifle sits when you're moving between positions or walking a long parking lot.

Before you buy. Folding stocks always have a tiny bit of play compared to a fixed steel buffer tube. That play is what lets it fold, and it doesn't affect accuracy in any real way, but if you prefer the absolute rigidity of a one-piece setup, a fixed stock or an A2/Carine-length fixed tube is the better choice. Make sure your rifle's buffer tube matches the stock thread — the adapter handles the common sizes, but it's worth checking before you buy.

Includes the stock and a mounting adapter for standard buffer tubes.
