An M140 spring is how you push an AEG into DMR or sniper territory. Lancer Tactical's version uses piano wire steel — a finer-diameter wire wound tighter than standard spring steel — which gives more consistent tension cycle to cycle and holds that tension longer as the spring ages.
What M140 means in practice. The rating lands roughly around 450–550 FPS on 0.20g BBs in a factory setup, but the actual number depends on your cylinder, barrel length, air seal, and spring guide — the M-rating is a rough guide, not a promise. Chrono the result before your first game. At this velocity range, you're looking at bolt-action sniper rules or semi-only DMR with minimum engagement distances around 50 to 75 feet.
This is not a casual upgrade. An M140 puts significantly more stress on everything behind it: higher current draw from the motor, more torque load on the gears, and greater piston impact on the cylinder head. You need a high-torque motor, quality metal gears, good shimming, and ideally a sorbothane pad on the cylinder head to absorb the blowback from misfires. Slapping this into a stock rifle with stock internals is how you strip teeth.
Fitment. This is a standard M140-length spring designed for Version 2 AEG gearboxes. Version 3 platforms typically accept M140 lengths as well, but confirm your gearbox's maximum spring length before ordering. On a V2, swapping the spring means splitting the gearbox — there is no quick-change option on that platform. If you're not comfortable opening a box, budget for a tech.
What it's not for. This is not a spring for everyday field play. It belongs in dedicated bolt-action rifles where you're cocking each shot manually, or in DMR builds running a heavy spring with matching torque internals. Running it in a standard semi-auto field rifle will draw too much current, wreck your trigger contacts, and likely fail chrono safety anyway.
