Everyone needs a decent pair of combat pants. The Gen4 Combat BDU is Lancer's attempt to solve the problem of finding one you can run a full day in without your knees complaining or your pockets failing mid-game.
The fabric is the comfortable compromise. 35% cotton and 65% polyester is the old BDU formula — soft against the skin on day one, quick to dry compared to straight cotton, and the ripstop weave means that when a thorn or a rusted nail catches you, the fabric tears instead of running.
Pocket layout that actually works. Multiple pockets across the front, cargo, and calf. Front slant pockets that fit a phone without creating a bulge. Zippered cargo pockets for gear you don't want to drop when you go prone. Two calf pockets for small items. Plus internal waistband storage. Wide belt loops that actually fit a combat belt without buckling. Most pants in this price range give you cargo pockets and call it a day; this one is organized.
Fit details that matter. Articulated knees give you range of motion when you drop. The adjustable hem at the bottom means you can pull them over boots or wear them cuffed. The velcro waist closure fine-tunes things when your belt doesn't get you quite right. Knees have integrated slots and the pants ship with anti-collision knee pads that snap in — useful for pushing across gravel or kneeling behind cover for a long fire team.
A note on the 40" size. That's the waist measurement, and Lancer's large sizes tend toward a roomier cut through the thigh and seat, which is genuinely useful when you're running knee pads under the pants. If you're between sizes, size up — you can always cinch the waist with the belt.
What they're not. They're combat trousers, not combat shorts or DPM trousers in the traditional military sense. They're designed for airsoft and milsim use — the pocket layout, stretch panels, and included knee pads all point toward gameplay. If you just want plain BDUs without the tactical additions, there are simpler pants.
Color shown is tan. The included knee pads are black, so plan your loadout accordingly.
